Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties, making a commitment to changing the situation by seeking therapy is the next step towards happiness. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, helping you access the ability to feel emotionally safe, connected and happy, while re-directing damaging patterns and overcome the challenges you or a loved one faces.
My primary focus is in addressing ones ability to regulate and calm them self, to end damaging behaviors and to build strong relationships. Many relationships suffer due to the variety of challenges families face. I typically work with children, adolescents and their parents individually and in family therapy, as well and with couples. I’m well versed in life events and disruptions such as, anxiety, depression, the birth of a baby, adoption, children with special needs, infertility, adolescence, marriage difficulties, divorce, empty nest syndrome and end of life issues. Additionally, I’m experienced with many disorders and frequently work with ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Bi-polar, OCD, Reactive Attachment, Postpartum Depression and highly dysregulated children and adolescents. I specialize in relationship work and primarily use the evidence based treatment approach of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). The EFT and EFFT approach is a mixture of attachment, experiential and systemic based psychotherapy, which focuses on the heart of the matter in reconnecting distressed relationships.
Every therapy session is unique and caters to each individual and their specific need. It is standard to discuss the primary issues and concerns in your life during therapy sessions. It is common to schedule a series of weekly sessions, where each session lasts around fifty minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues. It is important to process what has been discussed and integrate it into your life between sessions.
In some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action. Working with your medical doctor, you can determine what's best for you. It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional difficulties and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of only treating the symptom, you can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness.
A good fit between you and your therapist is crucial to having a meaningful and successful experience. As an Emotionally-Focused Therapist, my goal is to help you re-connect to your loved ones. Without that, happiness and well-being is very difficult to obtain. Whether you are a couple in need of falling back into love, or a parent who is having difficulty with your child, connecting emotionally and understanding what your loved ones need, will greatly improve your relationship and reduce conflict.
